Measuring AI ROI: Metrics Beyond Time Saved

3 mins read

Time saved is useful, but it is not enough to justify an AI program. Faster work can still produce more errors, weak customer outcomes, or hidden review costs.

Measure the whole workflow

Track completion rate, human correction time, exception rate, customer impact, operating cost, and risk incidents. Compare against a baseline using the same task definition and quality standard.

Separate adoption from value

Active users and prompt counts describe usage. They do not prove business benefit. Connect each workflow to an outcome such as qualified leads, faster resolution, fewer defects, or improved campaign conversion.

Run controlled expansions

Start with a small group, log failure categories, and expand only when quality remains stable. Include model fees, infrastructure, integration work, evaluation, governance, and training in total cost.

For marketing workflows, use consistent campaign tags and conversion events. Short links and QR analytics can connect AI-assisted production to real audience behavior without sending sensitive destination data into model prompts.
